Position Summary:

URC is seeking for a Senior Logistics Advisor for an anticipated USAID-funded nutrition project in Zambia. The project is focused on promoting good nutrition and preventing malnutrition in adults and children enrolled in HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs and at-risk OVC clients. Furthermore, it aims to improve the anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and palliative care clients’ outcomes by providing nutrition assessment, counseling, and support in these target populations including prevention of mother to child transmission (PMTCT) and OVC clients at clinical and community levels.

We strongly encourage applications from Zambian nationals who bring familiarity with local health systems as well as language and cultural expertise.

The positions below are for a proposal and are contingent upon successful award of project funding.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Work with government counterparts to establish facility-level forecasted product needs and to establish health facility systems to track consumption of specialized food products, request replenishment of products and define options for ease of use and transport.
  • In close collaboration with local partners, develop and implement plan to integrate therapeutic and supplemental food distribution and storage within/into the national HIV/ARV commodity system.
  • Lead project forecasting and procurement of RUTF.
  • Work closely with local high-energy protein supplement (HEPS) producers to ensure adequate and consistent supply of HEPS for project-supported sites as well as potential retail outlets.

Required Qualifications:

  • Senior-level experience in logistics and/or supply chain management programs with an emphasis on food production and procurement for public health.
  • Previous experience with USAID logistics/supply chain management projects.
  • Familiarity or experience with specialized food products for prevention and treatment of under nutrition for people living with HIV/AIDS and orphans and vulnerable children is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in performance improvement and local capacity building.
  • Master’s degree in public health, procurement, logistics, supply chain management or equivalent education or work experience is highly preferred.
  • Excellent English language skills (FS-3 level).
  • A Zambian familiar with local supply chain systems and specialized food production is strongly preferred.
