Hay Al-Nasr Local Health Committee Promotes Environmental Health in Karbala

File Type .pdf | File Size 231.4 KB

For many years, the lack of a proper sanitation system has plagued the Hay Al-Nasr community of Karbala province in central Iraq. The community has experienced a deterioration of its health status, and many attribute this to the stagnant sewage water and neglected garbage left to pile up in the streets. In addition to contaminating the water supply, these conditions act as a breeding ground for flies and mosquitoes that transmit disease. Despite the obvious need, the community saw nothing being done to fix the problem. Now, however, thanks to the USAID Primary Health Care Project in Iraq (PHCPI) community health partnerships initiative, Hay Al-Nasr residents have a mechanism for voicing their concerns and taking action to improve the health of their community.
