While the Greater Mekong Sub-region has made considerable progress in reducing the burden of malaria, progress has been uneven, with Viet Nam and Thailand moving toward pre-elimination while incidence continues to be high in border provinces of Cambodia and Lao PDR, and nationwide in Myanmar. Given the high mobility of the population internally and across borders in the region, cross-border collaboration is essential for an effective response.
