This describes the Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant TB (PMDT) component of the USAID TB CARE II project. The key objective is to develop systems to support effective PMDT. To improve responses to MDR/XDR TB in high burden settings, the project works with partners to: increase access to quality MDR prevention, early detection, and treatment services; improve community-based MDR services; and accelerate routine MDR surveillance.

The USAID TB Care II Project is a five-year cooperative agreement led by URC. Key strategies of this program include: assisting countries in rapid scale up of program implementation; systems strengthening and capacity building; integrating content of care with process of care; rapid scaling up of best practices through district-based approaches; leveraging partner resources; and reaching vulnerable populations with quality services.
