Saving Women’s Lives: Improved Obstetric Care in Benin

This success story describes how the Integrated Family Health Program (PISAF) made rapid progress in helping government facilities apply active management of third stage labor (AMTSL) as part of routine childbirth care. As increasing numbers of facilities used AMTSL (73% in 2008 to 98% in March 2009), postpartum hemorrhage rates fell by over half (1.5% to 0.7%).
