Community-Based Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Innovation

Overview

URC provided technical support to ChildFund and the Secretariat of Health to help develop and implement the continuous quality improvement (CQI) process in 16 health facilities in the health region of Francisco Morazán. The USAID Health Care Improvement Project also developed a CQI process for community health units to improve activities in maternal and child health carried out by community health workers (CHWs) in eight communities. All tools and materials were designed to support the training of the health workers.

  • Provided community-based CQI systems for local health service delivery sites
  • Conducted first, second, and third learning sessions for health workers from 16 facilities
  • Held workshops on CQI for workers from ChildFund and the Ministry of Health
  • Completed first and second learning sessions for CHWs
  • Developed guidelines and tools to train CHWs
  • Provided follow up to health facilities and communities
