URC Endorses WHO Statement on Preventing and Eliminating Disrespect and Abuse During Childbirth
University Research Co., LLC (URC) is pleased to announce its endorsement of the World Health Organization's statement "The prevention and elimination of disrespect and abuse during facility-based childbirth". The statement is being announced today at the Third Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, in Cape Town, South Africa.
URC manages the Translating Research in Action (TRAction) Project, funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to provide critically-needed evidence to program implementers and policy-makers addressing maternal and child health issues. URC and the USAID TRAction Project have worked for many years to document evidence on the causes of disrespect and abuse during facility-based childbirth.
URC President Barbara Turner said,
"URC is proud to support the WHO's important step towards ending this all-too-common phenomenon. We hope this statement will help bring greater political and financial support for research and programs to improve the quality of maternal health care, with a strong focus on respectful care. Every woman has a right to receive high quality, dignified, and respectful healthcare through pregnancy and childbirth."
