Principal Researcher/Evaluator

Job Description: 

The US-based Health, Education, and Training Division is home to projects funded through University Research Co., LLC and Center for Human Services. The Principle Researcher/Evaluator is being hired under CHS to design and execute the research methodology for a project designed to assess the effectiveness of a social-behavioral intervention. The Principal Researcher/Evaluator will have primary responsibility for the design and implementation of the research study as well the interpretation and analysis of data.

Job Responsibilities: 
  • Help the PI to articulate and refine project goals and outcomes and to ensure that they are well-aligned with the project activities (this often takes the form of a logic model)
  • Design an evaluation plan that articulates a) questions that will guide the evaluation; b) the approach that will frame the evaluation activities; c) data collection methods that will be used to answer evaluation questions; d) a budget and timeline for the evaluation; e) a plan for working with the project team; and f) a dissemination plan for sharing information with the PI and the public
  • Collaborate with PI and CHS staff during proposal development (including writing the evaluation section and reviewing draft proposals)
  • Be responsive to PI's needs relative to what they want to know and what they want to test, with whom, and when
  • Engage in an iterative testing process that provides feedback to the PI in a timely and useful manner
  • Support data interpretation and provide broader context for results as needed
  • Check that the summative evaluation will answer the questions put forth in the proposal and promised to the funder; carefully revise questions as necessary
  • Determine whether the evaluation methods will answer the evaluation questions
  • Develop items and instruments that align with appropriate methods; before data collection, make sure that results provided by the instruments will answer the evaluation questions
  • Establish reasonable data collection timeline
  • Conduct the study
  • Design and write clear and concise research reports that integrate results from mixed methods approaches used
  • Collect, analyze, and report quantitative and qualitative data for research, evaluation, and measures development; including combining data from multi-methods studies to derive conclusions, measures, and policy recommendations.
  • Train, supervise, monitor and assess performance of junior researchers
  • Ensure the integrity and safeguarding of research data
Job Requirements: 
  • Advanced degree in the social sciences or related field relevant to work required
  • At least 5 years of experience in social and behavioral research/evaluation
  • Demonstrated education and experience sufficient to conduct social science statistical analysis
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience (at least five years) in research design, methodology, and statistical analysis appropriate for social and behavioral research/evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience producing analytical reports and articles published in peer-reviewed journals (at least 5 reports or articles)
  • Demonstrated experience effectively summarizing analytic findings in oral presentations
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise junior and mid-level research staff in a collaborative research environment
