Principal Investigator

Job Description: 

The US-based Health, Education, and Training Division is home to projects funded through University Research Co., LLC and Center for Human Services. The Principal Investigator is being hired under CHS to develop and implement an organ donation awareness research project to test the effectiveness of strategies that increase knowledge about opportunities for, and risk and benefits of, living organ donation.

Job Responsibilities: 
  • Participate in decisions regarding the design and implementation of proposed intervention
  • Contribute to drafting text to describe the methodology and work plan of the proposed intervention
  • Provide technical, programmatic, and administrative oversight for an organ donation awareness research project, to include, but not be limited to:
    • Executing the project as outlined in the funded proposal, using sound management techniques
    • Reporting project progress to the US-based Programs Director and Deputy Director and the funder, as outlined in the terms of the award; and ensuring the completion, accuracy, and timeliness of programmatic (technical) reports
    • Maintaining an accurate record of project related expenses and working with contracts and finance teams to ensure accuracy in reporting
    • Complying with all applicable sponsor rules, regulations, and/or terms and conditions of the award
    • Managing staff, vendors, subcontractors, and consultants, as applicable
    • Taking all necessary precautions to protect human subjects and minimize project risks, including training staff, as needed
    • Overseeing data collection, quality control, and analysis
  • Document project activities and methodologies
  • Ensure the integrity and safeguarding of notebooks and scientific data
  • Notify the appropriate regulatory office if changes to project scope will affect approved protocols
  • Meet continuing IRB protocol review requirements and assist with inspections
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and as required, presentations at scientific and community meetings
  • Keep staff updated on organ donation or transplantation, including providing in-service seminars, training and mentoring on behavioral research methods, issues, and the latest scientific evidence
  • Maintain knowledge of standard operating procedures for research and perform in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements related to human research participants and HIPAA requirements
Job Requirements: 
  • Ph.D., DrPH, or equivalent level degree
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in design and implementation of interventions to educate the public about living donation OR the design and implementation of studies to assess the effectiveness of social-behavioral interventions
  • Demonstrated experience managing the day-to-day operations of federally funded projects, to include serving as the point of contact for the client/funder, supervising staff, consultants, subcontractors, and vendors, and providing technical leadership
  • Experience with mixed method research
  • History of collaboration on multi-disciplinary or transdisciplinary research teams
  • Experience and expertise in organ donation or transplantation
